There’s no place like home!
This Sunday, Feb 23, find out how Houstonian’s lived after they began to build a city and create homes of their own. The Archaeological Institute joins with the Heritage Society to celebrate Houston’s beginnings at a free Family Day. Everyone is invited to enjoy hands-on activities, crafts, a mock-excavation and refreshments and take a tour of the 1823 Old Place. In addition, you’ll get to hear students from the Houston School of Irish Music perform Celtic pieces that might have been heard by some early Houstonians.
The Heritage Society is located at 1100 Bagby Street in Sam Houston Park. Founded in 1954, The Heritage Society provides excellent programs for the community that help preserve the history of our city through the restoration of historic structures, exhibitions, and educational programs.
Visitors should park in the paved lot on the right hand side off of Allen Parkway inbound. Cross Allen Parkway with care to arrive at the plaza in front of the Museum where activities will take place.
Apache Corporation has generously underwritten the free “Ancient Encounters” events.
